About

Emily is a lifelong resident of East Baton Rouge Parish who has dedicated her career to serving families and strengthening her community. She attended local schools, including Chapel Trafton (now The Dunham School) and Sacred Heart, before graduating from Baton Rouge Magnet High School. Emily earned her degree from Louisiana State University and later pursued theological studies at Reformed Theological Seminary. Raised at First Presbyterian Church, she began her professional career there, grounding her work in faith and service.

In March 2024, Emily was elected to the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board in a special election. Since taking office, she has focused on understanding the system and delivering measurable results for students and families. Her work on the board includes helping hire a new superintendent, supporting the first phase of right-sizing the district, voting to adopt later school start times, leading efforts to improve school safety, and streamlining the academic calendar to reduce inefficiencies and eliminate unnecessary half-days.

Under Emily’s leadership, the district strengthened campus security by implementing a more rigorous check-in process that screens all adult visitors through a sex offender database. Also, under her leadership, the board hosted a summer book drive helping to stick up the school libraries with books. She continues to champion transparency and accessibility, working to make the school system easier for families to understand and navigate—especially those who need additional support.

Emily has served on the Policy and Procedure Handbook Committee, where she worked to ensure policies are clear, practical, and easy for families and staff to understand. She has also served on the iCare Advisory Board, contributing to initiatives that support student well-being and school culture, focusing on the suicide prevention campaign and Sunshine Day.

For more than 16 years, she has been an active member of Grace Life Fellowship, where she has served as Youth Director and now as Family Ministries Director. Her heart is for families to flourish and for children to be well supported and cared for.
